Mark has been an active free-lance musician for more than 25 years with extensive experience as a soloist playing concerts, weddings, special events, restaurants and hotels. Mark is also well regarded as an orchestral harpist and choral accompanist.
Mark is known for his stimulating performances in genres not generally associated with the harp, including jazz and bossa nova. Mark has studied and performed classical music since age eight.
Mark has performed with many orchestras in Chicago, Boston and Southeast Michigan, and has been a featured soloist with the Grace Lutheran Church (River Forest, Ill.) Bach Cantata series, performing the Handel harp concerto twice with the Grace Bach Cantata Orchestra. Mark also recently performed the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto with the Concordia University Chamber Orchestra. Mark performed in the Nutcracker with the Ballet Legere Orchestra under Dr. Richard Fischer for 20 years, and was a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra. Mark toured with John Raitt in a revival of Carousel and has performed with Johnny Mathis. Mark has played for many musicals, including countless performances of The Fantasticks.
Mark has also been active in several area churches, playing services and concerts, including First Presbyterian (River Forest), United Lutheran (Oak Park), St. Michael's (Old Town), Holy Name Cathedral and the Ev. Lutheran Church of St. Luke (Chicago) where he performed the Ceremony of Carols.
Mark has also been active in area schools, recently performing at Carl Sandburg High School and also performing Holst's Rig Veda and Ceremony of Carols at Lyons Township High School.
Other skills include improvising, arranging and composing.
Mark has a bachelor of music degree in harp performance from the University of Michigan and also studied at Boston University. He is a former adjunct professor of harp at Concordia University, River Forest, Ill.
